In short, outward-facing cameras are locked down. If no spatial Persona is found on a device, then no camera frames will return to apps. When querying for front camera, apps find a single composite camera. This is a nonfunctional camera to support apps that assume back camera availability. The back camera returns a black camera frame with a no camera glyph.
When querying camera, apps will find two cameras. When querying microphone, apps will receive a single front location microphone.
When apps request camera and microphone availability, expect different values to be returned than iPad and iPhone.

The full details are in the story, but to sum up: using a combination of shortcuts based on Apple’s native actions, I can use Reminders to choose between long and short stories whenever I’m in the mood to read something.
